How do air conditioners work?

Air conditioners consist of two units, one inside of the home and one outside. The inside unit takes in warm air from your house and cools it. It runs the air over a coil called the evaporator coil that is cooled by refrigerant. This cooled air goes into the ducts which transport it around your house.

While cooling the air, the evaporator coil absorbs heat which then heats up the refrigerant that originally made it cool. The warm refrigerant is released to the unit outside of your home, called the condenser, and containing the condenser coil. A fan cools the refrigerant at this coil, and the heat from it escapes to the outside. The cooled refrigerant then goes back to the evaporator coil inside the home. The circulation process repeats until your home reaches your thermostat’s temperature.

What is the average lifespan of an AC system?

On average, your air conditioning system should last for at least a decade. With proper and regular maintenance and service, you could use your air conditioner for up to 12 to 15 years.

What are common problems people experience with air conditioning?

Insufficient Maintenance

    • Neglecting to regularly service your AC system decreases its life and drives up your energy bill. When your air filters and air conditioning coils become clogged with dust, your system uses more energy to cool your house. It can also cause your fans to wear out earlier than they should. Preventative maintenance keeps your system running smoothly and reduces costly air conditioning repairs.

Poor Installation

      • Faulty wiring can result in your AC system not pulling enough electricity to work, or overloading your circuits. Inside the AC, if your refrigerant charge is not set up to match the specifications of the system, your system will need to use more energy.

    • Due to wear over time, systems might begin to leak refrigerant. Calling an air conditioning repair service right away will help you to extend the life of your system and prevent further breakdown.
    Hiring a professional ac repairman?

Finding a knowledgeable and honest home AC repairman that you can trust to work inside your home is not always an easy task. However, when an issue with your AC arises, it’s best to leave it to the experts. Read reviews and ensure your air conditioning repair technician has a history of happy customers. Look for companies that promote maintenance and repairs, and don’t just push new installations. Ask for quotes, and get second opinions when needed. Here at 4C A/C & Heating, we are proud of the fact that 80% of our customers are referrals from families and owners we have worked within the past. Our family-owned and operated air condition repair service succeeds when our customers are satisfied.
